An inter-institutional roundtable is held on strengthening the legal framework for the online protection of children

The protection of children in the digital space is one of the key priorities of the National Cybersecurity Authority (AKSK), which, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, held an inter-institutional roundtable focused on the risks affecting children online and the need to strengthen the legal framework and protection mechanisms.

The Director General, Igli Tafa, emphasized that the increase in forms of online abuse requires a clearer and more adaptable legal framework aligned with the realities of the digital age. He noted that several current provisions addressing harmful content, blackmail, and online threats no longer reflect the way these phenomena manifest today, especially in cases involving children. For this reason, he stressed the necessity of reviewing the relevant sections of the Criminal Code and harmonizing them with the evolving nature of digital threats, as part of the broader reform envisioned in the National Cybersecurity Strategy 2025–2030.

The Minister of Education, Mirela Kumbaro, highlighted the role of digital education and the importance of healthy balances in the use of technology, emphasizing the essential cooperation between schools, parents, and institutions as a key element for the well-being of children in the online environment.

Participating institutions clearly identified areas requiring practical intervention, from reporting mechanisms to the role of schools and the adaptation of legal provisions. The next steps will focus on the concrete implementation of these measures, with the aim of strengthening the protection of children in the digital world.
