Igli Tafa: Artificial Intelligence is Transforming Albania’s Cyber Defense from Reactive to Proactive

The General Director of the National Cybersecurity Authority (AKSK), Mr. Igli Tafa, participated in the panel “Investment Potential and the Future of Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence in the Region”, organized by CyberFront and Evolution Equity Partners. The event brought together in Tirana representatives from the global technology, innovation, and investment industries.

In his remarks, Mr. Tafa shared the latest developments in Albania’s cybersecurity landscape and outlined the vision for the future. He emphasized that artificial intelligence has already been integrated into public institutions, serving to identify vulnerabilities and prevent up to 70% of cyberattacks. This new approach is transforming the country’s defense model from reactive to proactive — where threats are prevented before they occur.

The AKSK Director also highlighted the importance of regional cooperation in cybersecurity. He presented the initiative to establish a National Center of Excellence for Digital Resilience and Quantum Resistance, which will serve as a joint collaboration platform for Western Balkan countries, combining technical expertise and strategic vision to ensure a secure and resilient digital space.

These developments demonstrate that Albania is no longer just a participant in the cybersecurity dialogue, but one of the countries leading it in the region — turning innovation into a shield and cooperation into a source of resilience.
