The National Cyber Security Authority, in cooperation with the Albanian Association of Banks, would like to inform the public about several recent cases of fraudulent phone calls carried out through VoIP technology (calls made over the internet).
In recent days, cases have been reported involving phone calls originating from addresses with extensions such as “@gmail” or other platforms, where the name of a bank is used. During the call, the name or logo of a bank may appear on the screen, creating the impression that the call is coming from the bank, while in reality it is an attempt at fraud.
These types of calls are carried out via the internet, and the true identity of the caller cannot be verified through such addresses (e.g., @gmail, @instagram, or other platforms).
During the calls, the individuals may communicate in different languages and may request bank card details or other personal information, claiming it is necessary to stop suspicious transactions allegedly made with your card.
Be cautious:
• Banks in Albania will never ask for bank card details, PIN codes, security codes, or other confidential information over the phone.
• If you receive a suspicious call, do not share any personal information and immediately end the call.
• Verify any communication by contacting your bank only through the official phone numbers published by the bank.
• Immediately report any suspicious case to your bank.
