Albania welcomes the first official visit of the European Center for Excellence in Handling Hybrid Threats

Today, on October 22, 2024, the National Cyber Security Authority (NCSA) welcomed representatives of the European Center of Excellence against Hybrid Threats (Hybrid CoE) on their first official visit to Albania. This visit follows Albania’s membership in the Hybrid CoE on June 13, 2024, making our country the 36th member of this center. The membership represents a strong commitment from Albania to face the challenges of hybrid threats and to expand cooperation with NATO and EU allied countries.

The purpose of the visit was to present the activities of the Hybrid CoE and exchange experiences on dealing with hybrid threats, including disinformation, cyber intrusions, and sabotage. During the meeting, ways to increase capacities and public awareness of hybrid threats were also discussed, thereby strengthening national defense against these global challenges.

The General Director of NCSA, Mr. Igli Tafa, emphasized the importance of this cooperation:
“Hybrid threats are a new reality that includes challenges such as disinformation and sabotage. Albania will benefit significantly from membership in the Hybrid CoE, having access to the best international expertise and strengthening our capabilities to address these internationally spreading threats. This collaboration will also help develop new talent and improve our defensive strategies.”

Mr. Tapio Pyysalo, Hybrid CoE’s Head of International Relations, added:
“Albania has a strong base and considerable expertise in the field of cyber security. We are pleased to be expanding this cooperation and building new capacities to address hybrid threats, including raising public awareness and preparing institutions for future challenges.”

Albania’s membership in the Hybrid CoE is a strategic opportunity to strengthen national capacities, access international expertise, and benefit from joint collaborations for hybrid security. This strategic cooperation positions Albania as an important actor in the field of hybrid security, contributing to the protection of national interests in an increasingly digitized world.
